A couple of months back, Jon spotted that the London Postal Museum had a behind the scenes day where you get see a lot more than just the museum. Tickets for this must have sold out really quickly as he inadvertently ended up booking normal tickets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oh well, this was something I had been wanting to go and see … Really just to have a ride on one of the old mail trains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Postal Museum was located near Faringdon and Kings Cross so just a quick trip from Paddington on the Hammersmith and City line to reach Kings Cross.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We tasked Callum to find somewhere for breakfast\/brunch as it usually falls on me to find somewhere.<\/p>\n\n\n

He decided we would go to a cafe called HALFCUP<\/a><\/strong>. It was walk ins only, you couldn’t book a table. He navigated us from Kings Cross to the cafe (making an obligatory stop for a photo by the Harrison Street sign) and discovered a small queue for a table. The place was tiny. Perhaps 6 or so tables inside and the same again outside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tables turned over remarkably quickly and we only waited about 10 mins or so. We were lucky to have an outside table. It was a really popular place with lots of people wandering up to make bookings or order take aways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Callum decided he wanted the Strawberry Shake and Jon and I just had Apple Juices. For breakfast, it was full English all round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Food was steadily coming out to the other tables and portions looked to be very generous. The Avocados on Sourdough looked really good as did their take on Eggs Benedict … Served over has browns rather than muffins. There was a lot of quirky options … Chicken on waffles, Turkish eggs, choc chips pancakes and Oreo French Toast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The English Breakfast was really good. The hash browns were crispy, the mushrooms surprisingly tasty as was the sausage. Would have preferred the bacon to be crispier but it was fine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well done Callum! We’ll be back if we are back in the area needed breakfast again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Temperature was starting to warm up so we headed south towards the Postal Museum<\/a><\/strong> and debating whether we should stop at another museum on route. We were walking close to the Charles Dickens Museum and the Foundlings Museum along with a couple of others. In the end we headed straight to the Postal Museum to wander around the Museum before taking the train ride.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The museum located in a modern building with an outside garden area with seating and featuring postboxes in the fake hedge. Inside, there was a large foyer with gift shop and cafe.<\/p>\n\n\n

The museum took you through the history of mail from Tudor times and Henry VIII to modern day. An old mail coach that used to London to Bristol Mail Route had been restored – this would have been one that passed through Thatcham back in the day. The Kings Head and White Hart pubs in Thatcham were all former coaching inns on the route.<\/p>\n\n\n
