Another trip into London today as Jon had arranged tickets for us to go to The Hundred Final at Lords. Heading down to Southampton to watch Southern Brave at the Utilita Bowl has become an annual event but going to the final was a first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From the website, the food options at the ground didn’t seem as extensive as in Southampton. The Utilita Bowl (or Rose Bowl before they sold the naming rights!) was built on the outskirts of Southampton with plenty of land. The site features a Hilton Hotel (with rooms overlooking the pitch), a golf course and a smaller cricket pitch along side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lords is one of the oldest grounds built and it’s right in the heart of London. It’s totally built up immediately outside of the ground so they’ve squeezed everything into the original footprint.<\/p>\n\n\n

We decided to head into London a little earlier and grab a brunch somewhere around Paddington. Immediately behind the station is Paddington Basin. An area that has been extensively redeveloped in the last 20 years or so. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first time we had been was when Jon’s sister was working in London and we were heading in with Jon’s parents to meet up for the day. That was at the start of the redevelopment. What is a surprise is the criss-cross of canals heading through this area – gaining it the nickname “Little Venice”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What’s there today is a mix of restaurants, bars, hotels, offices and residential blocks and a fairly quiet area of London right outside Paddington Station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We looked at the food options by Paddington and the restaurant Bondi Green<\/a><\/strong> came up with good reviews. Co-incidentally, a friend had been there a couple of weeks earlier and posted about it on Facebook. We thought it may be busy so booked a table and just kept fingers crossed the trains would be on time!<\/p>\n\n\n

The train was slightly late into Paddington as we were held on the outskirts of Reading for 5 minutes or so. When we arrived, we headed out the back of Paddington. We were still 30 minutes early so had a wander about and found an M&S Food Hall and planned to pick up some sandwiches for later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We headed into Bondi Green 15 minutes early and were welcomed in as our table was ready. We were sat right by the pass with a very good view of the food leaving the kitchen. We were trying to work out which dishes were what – I must have changed my mind about what to order about six times!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the end, Jon chose the Full English complete with Fennel and Chili Sausage, I had the Dirty Daisy (crisp mini hash browns with a chipotle salsa, chorizo and poached eggs, and Callum went for the Blueberry Pancakes with a side of bacon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The food was amazing – really flavoursome – just could have done to be a little warmer. Jon was pleasantly surprised by how good the sausage was and intrigued by the black sourdough bread. We’ll be back for sure. Interestingly, the barge just outside the station exit is a sister restaurant with an identical menu so that’s another option (you don’t have to cross the canal!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lords Cricket Ground was about a 25 minute walk from Paddington so after grabbing some snacks for later at M&S, we started to walk to the ground. The streets are pretty quite and lined with some stunning buildings. We eventually hit Edgeware Road and then St John’s Road and were surprised at how few people were around, walking to the ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A very short queue to get into the ground and made our way around to the Grandstand. Jon checked with an official who pointed us in the right direction – “You’ve got a cracking view”, he said, “But the downside is that you need to walk up three flights of stairs!”. <\/p>\n\n\n
