Given that we were at sea, we are being kept pretty busy … and today must be one of the busier days we have. The seas were still very calm, weather just a little cloudy to start with but you\u2019d hardly know you were at sea. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The morning started off nicely with all the kids invited to Breakfast with Noddy. Noddy was being a complete pickle; banging knives and forks on the table, dipping Callum\u2019s toast into Jon\u2019s tea and then adding salt and pepper to it too! Napkins were thrown around and the more the poor waiters kept telling him off, the more mess he would make! \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Callum happily headed back to Kids Club afterwards for Carnival Day whilst Jon and I went to the Glass House Wine Tasting. There were only about 20 of us signed up and we sampled two whites and two reds, including the most expensive red on menu. Unbeknownst to us, the two white wines we were sampling, we\u2019d tried the night before \u2013 the Spanish Albarino and the South African \u201cFMC\u201d. Little bits of tapas style food accompanied the wines, and it was a very pleasant way to spend an hour or so.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We had lunch in the Peninsular Restaurant \u2013 just soup and a sandwich (well, I had salad, Jon and Callum had the burger!).A little more civilised than the buffet! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Callum headed back to the kids club for \u201cCarnival Day\u201d rehearsals and all the parents joined in the action from 4.15pm. All the kids were manning stalls \u2013 there was Splat the Rat, face painting (yes the kids were doing the face painting!), coin rolling, ice cream and cakes, and Callum was helping out on the bowling stall. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Afterwards there was a bit of a talent show (Callum joined in the boys dancing demo) but they all put on an amazing show.<\/p>\n\n\n

This evening we had booked for The Glass House Tasting Menu \u2013 select wines accompanied by the perfect food (or should that be the other way around). It\u2019s a once-per-cruise only feature and by invitation only (or if you go to the Glass House on the first evening to eat, you are likely to get an invite!) <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our table companions for the evening were Janice and Phil (Mum – not the Janice & Phil!) from Lancaster who were great company. It turns out Janice went to school in Barrow … and her friends son is about to start an Apprenticeship at Centrica with Barrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anyway, food-wise we started off with Smoked Salmon (with Capers, Caviar) accompanied by the Niagara Peller Ice Wine (which we had already tried and loved!), this was followed by the most perfectly cooked piece of fillet steak with Foie Gras and woodland mushroom sauce \u2013 this was served with a French Full bodied Red. Cheese (5 types) was served with charcoal biscuits and a lighter red and finally pudding \u2013 an assiette of pineapple (pineapple cooked several different ways!) was served with a dessert wine. Both the Glass House Manager and the Head Wine Manager talked about the food and the wine before we started to eat. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We both really enjoyed the evening, the food and the company and wouldn\u2019t hesitate signing up again on another cruise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the meal we went to check up on Callum and even though it was only 9.15pm he was ready to go back to the cabin. They were showing \u201dWhere The Wild Things Are\u201d and whilst he loved the book, the film with all the creatures brought to live freaks him out a little. We should set foot on dry land tomorrow, so probably not a bad move.<\/p>\n
