Introducing a friend to her first Treasure Trail<\/a><\/strong> today – her sons had both completed a couple with us previously so knew what they were letting themselves in for. We gave a couple of suggestions of trails to do, and she settled on Goring. Thankfully the weather was a lot cooler today – yesterday temperatures were over 36C!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We found the car park in Goring surprisingly easily although all spaces appeared to be taken. Luckily someone was leaving as we were about to try and find somewhere else. Trail started here, taking us through the town then onto the towpath by the River Thames.<\/p>\n\n\n

The trail took us through the churchyard and down a little lane where we twigged we were walking past Mill Cottage – home to the late George Michael. My friend promptly disowned her boys when they asked who George Michael was! Callum save the situation a little when he said he thought he was a singer! Youth of today \ud83d\ude42 <\/p>\n\n\n

Goring is on the opposite bank of the Thames to Streatley and there’s a rather impressive weir and small lock so the boats can continue their journey upstream.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We walked down the towpath for about a mile – the houses on the opposite bank were impressive with stunning views across the Thames. We wondered if they’d ever get bored of the view!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Evidence of WW2 was dotted along the banks of the Thames with pill boxes visible every mile or so.<\/p>\n\n\n

The walk was extremely picturesque with lots of wild flowers – some of which I can’t recall seeing since my childhood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trail took us back to where we started – the car park. The boys were starving so a late lunch was in order. At the entrance to the car park was The Catherine Wheel<\/strong><\/a> pub which had a nice garden out the back so we had a drink and a bite to eat there. The boys were disappointed the Pizza Oven was working until the evening but they offered light bites on the menu so fish, scampi and burgers ordered by the boys and the Mum’s ended up with baguettes. All really tasty.<\/p>\n
