Researching the name Jackson has proved tricky as there are loads of them – particularly in the North West (they fill half the phone book!). Whoever stated that people didn’t stray far from home in the 1800s hadn’t met my family – George in particular moved around a fair bit – being a carpenter on the railways would have sent him all over the place!

circa 1822

George Jackson was born circa 1822 in Bath. No records or trace have been found of his birth or baptism to date. The only record of his marriage is from his youngest daughters birth record. As she was born in Scotland, this information was recorded.

With George being a Carpenter on the Railways, they moved around a fair bit as you will see from census info and birth records.

1841 Census

The first time we THINK we come across George was in 1841.
