Maidenhead v Barrow

Non League Football today and a family outing to watch Barrow take on Maidenhead – the Bluebirds vs Magpies. We had a 30 mile journey to get to the stadium whereas any travelling away fans had a 550 mile round trip!

This year, my brother and nephew decided to join us and cheer on my home town. Photo also included some random Bluebirds fan from Ulverston!

Barrow fans had a bit of a shock to get in – £15 for an adult to get into the ground. Most were expecting to pay a tenner!

First half we watched from the sidelines at the Barrow end. Just one goal separated the teams going into half time, and Barrow were up. They were playing really well. The Barrow fans behind the goal were singing their heart out and never stopped.

We moved down to the other end for the second half and were at the edge of the Barrow fans. Our ears were ringing at the end from all the singing. They really do need to make up a couple more songs – Bar-row AFC and Bluebirds are Blue were on repeat!

Barrow continued to play well and were rarely troubled by Maidenhead and added another three goals to their tally in this half to the delight of the away fans. Barrow consolidated their place at the top of the Vanarama National League. Finish in top spot at the end of the season and it’s promotion to League 2 of the Football League. Fingers crossed.

A stern teamtalk for the Maidenhead team before they were allowed to leave the pitch.
