DC Bound

Our last NY Breakfast this morning and Callum’s decision was to eat in at our hotel.  A pretty extensive spread on offer.  Omelettes made to order and I got to have a go at making waffles!!

We checked out of our hotel and headed to pick up the Bus a couple of blocks away.  Taxis weren’t interested in taking us there so we dragged our cases along and joined the queue.

The bus turned up promptly and everyone knew exactly who was in charge!  The lady from DC Buses told everyone what to do and woe-betide anyone who didn’t listen to her instructions (even the driver got told off!)

We managed to get the three seats right at the back of the bus – just as well as the bus was full.  It was scheduled to take 4 hours or so to travel down to DC.  But at $69 for the three of us to get to DC vs $300 by train and $500+ to fly, it was a bargain.  The coach surprisingly comfortable – loads of leg room (even for me!), wifi and sockets, although ours didn’t work.  Would recommend this way to travel as it was VERY good value for money.

We arrived at Union Station on time and eventually figured out where to get a taxi from (signage non-existent!).  We must have also got the only taxi driver that didn’t really know where he was going.

We did arrive at our hotel (after a U-turn!) and our room was ready so could go straight up and unpack.  Afterwards, we grabbed a drink at the bar whilst decided what to do and where to go.  We are only a couple of blocks from The White House so headed to Lafayette Square.  The stay was brief as Callum was “desperate” so we headed back to the hotel.

We decided to eat at Etto this evening – an Italian that has rave reviews.  Well, finding the place was easier said than done.  After wandering around for half an hour trying to find the place, we eventually asked the valet at the Hampton Hotel and he pointed us in the right direction – 8 blocks further north than Trip Advisor said it was!

The place and the atmosphere was lovely – and you can watch the pizzas being made, but the pizza and menu sadly wasn’t really us.  Not very impressed with the food so left a little disappointed (and Jon still hungry) at the end of the meal.

Back to the hotel as we’ve a busy day tomorrow.
