30th April 2016

Today we spent the day in Oxford. Rather than drive (parking in the city centre is limited), we caught the train in the hope that Callum would get to go on the Class 180 after spotting them at Reading for so long.  He would need to wait a little longer!

A short walk from the station into the Town Centre, our first stop was the Tourist Information Centre to figure out what to see.  We opted for the Museum of the History of Science which the ladies in the Tourist Office raved about.   It was OK – really just collections of objects on how items have developed over time.

There was a Refractor owned by Francis Baily and other astronomical objects, plus cameras, wireless/radio and other objects.  It’s not a large museum … but just doesn’t compare to the Oxford’s Museum of Natural History.

It’s a lovely city to wander around with some stunning buildings everywhere you looked.  We stopped for a drink in The Turf Tavern, tucked off the main streets down some side alleys.  Unsurprisingly, this was a “Morse” pub … something that probably all the pubs in Oxford claim!  It was very quaint and for somewhere off the beaten track, very busy.

The rest of the day was spent wandering around the city.  The shopping area we remembered from previous trips was closed and under redevelopment but the Covered Market was still there.  Callum insisted on trying out a milk-shake from Moo-Moos.  A very popular place judging by the queues!

Before heading home, we decided to grab a bite to eat.  We’d spotted a few nice looking restaurants on our walk in, but settled on eating at Thaikhun this evening.  Food was fabulous!
