A trip into London to take Callum to the Museum of London.  Lots of information about London across the ages, to hopefully bring some of the things he’s learnt at school to life.

Some rather interesting and unexpected objects … such as a supposed Death Mask of Oliver Cromwell.

One section focuses on the Great Fire of London which was really interesting.

One interesting thing they did was to have replica helmets from the time and today’s modern style of helmets.  The weight difference was significant.

Going back even further in time, they also focused on Saxon times.  A mock up of a wattle and daub house (with cross-section).

More recent history with the early cars and a penny farthing.

The museum also holds exhibits from very recent history, in particular, the London Olympics.  This museum looks after the stunning Cauldron … and a pair of Tom Daly’s Budgie Smugglers!

We rarely travel into London without staying to grab a bite to eat.  This trip, we decided to eat in Belgo – a small chain of Belgian restaurants.  Callum loves mussels so his decision was down to which sauce to choose.  Fab meal and we’ll be back sometime soon … although I will make sure I choose a nicer beer next time!
