Flåm

Seas flat
Blue skies, sunshine and 25⁰C

An amazing view this morning when we pulled back the curtains – just stunning.  We had arrived in Flåm.

A leisurely start to the day – we met up with Mum and Ann for breakfast this morning at 8.45am to catch the end of breakfast being served in the main dining room.  Afterwards, we headed off the ship to explore Flåm a little more before the train journey – there isn’t much to the town as it is all geared up for the cruise passengers and tourists. Souvenir shops, Norwegian clothing shops and a fabulous brewery/bar.

We wandered around the end of the fjord to the marina where we could get some great photos of Britannia and of the wonderful scenery of Flåm.  She totally dominants the port.

It was really warm in town so Callum was in need of a ice cream.  We headed back to the ship and met with Mum and Ann and joined the queue for the P&O tour to go on the Flåmsbana – an hour long trip into the valley to a small village called Myrdal.  The views were stunning but mainly on the other side of the train (no seats left on this side!).

We stopped at the Kjosfossen Waterfall on the way up and back for the Huldra spirit to try and lure some men to the deaths – hopefully everyone made it back onto the train.

Back into town and we had earned a beer – 4 beers, 1 coke and £42 later!  we were sat enjoying our beer in the local hostelry,  Really good beer and a fab little bar with carved vikings and animals dotted around.

Back onto the ship, quick bite to eat then all back to our cabin balcony for sailaway out of Sognefjord.  Another ship had arrived and was tendering passengers ashore – Captain Dunlop announced that he would have to Bend It Like Beckham around the ship to leave!  We would be sailing through the fjords until 11pm this evening.  Sights and scenery were just stunning and were appreciated by a glass of bubbly/wine/pineapple pussyfoot!

Dinner back in the main dining room this evening – I chose cods cheek ceviche, Callum, Jon, and Mum the mussels and Ann the Duck pate.  For mains, I had the Moroccan lamb (although all the spices and apricot stuffing were missing in action),  Jon had the gammon, Callum the trout and mum and Ann had the cod which looked to be the best choice.

Off to the quiz after dinner and there was controversy!!  One team had seven players … and won!  We claimed joint runners up spot but one lady from the other runner-upping team looked distinctly unimpressed!  The Ents team chap had the last laugh though … as he forgot to give them their prized bottle of wine!
