Reading v Chelsea Pre-Season Friendly

Frankie Lampard had been appointed as the new Manager of Chelsea … and Reading were due to play them in a pre-season friendly. Pretty much guaranteed of a full house.

The queue to collect tickets was really long – computer problems meant tickets couldn’t be loaded on membership cards so people had to pick up their tickets from the office. Some people didn’t make it to their seats until half time!

The press and photographers were only interested in one person today – and it wasn’t any of the players!

We tried a new seating location and were in the corner right at the back. Great location and lots of leg room until someone decided to plonk themselves on the steps right by our feet and kept pushing us over!

Game-wise, it was one of the better Reading performances we’ve seen. The new signings looked to be fitting in. Unsurprisingly, Chelsea were on the scoresheet first, but Reading struck back quickly and before Chelsea added another before the half time whistle.

Reading’s half time team talk worked wonders as within minutes of play resuming, they were back level. Chelsea showed their class by edging two goals ahead but Reading refused to let their heads drop and pulled one back to finish 3-4 against Premiership opposition.

Really glad we made the effort to go!
