The new aircraft carrier, HMS Queen Elizabeth, had returned to Portsmouth after springing a leak on sea trials. We were making use of our annual passes to finally get to see her.

First stop though, was to see M.33 – one of the surviving Monitor-class ships that saw action in Gallipoli. It had been restored pretty much to 1915 times. The engine room had been turned into cinema sound room retelling the nightmare of what happened in Gallipoli – not often retold.
After wandering around M.33, we headed over to join the queue for the boat trip around the harbour.

HMS Queen Elizabeth was docked in Portsmouth so we were keen to get our first glimpse of her. Must admit, after all the press enthusing how big the new aircraft carrier was, I was expecting something a little bigger – needless to say, Jon was a little bemused.

No sign of the planes on the flight deck – just trucks!
