Chapel Down Gin Tasting

The renound British vineyard, Chapel Down, have expanded their range of late. They don’t just offer wines, but ciders, beers and more recently, gin and vodka.

Each year, shareholders receive a voucher for wine tasting at their vineyard. This year, we also received vouchers for gin tasting. With Callum off in Jersey with the Scouts, we decided to take advantage of their offer.

Based in Kings Cross, it was pretty easy to get to from home. As we had some time to kill, we headed out the back of Kings Cross to the canals and shopping centre.

Unlike the vineyard, the distillery was based in London – a ten minute walk from Kings Cross Station. The tasting session was in the distillery room itself. The place isn’t huge – just a dozen or so tables with drinks and a limited range of food available.

The gin tasting was good. The main gin, one based on a pinot noir grape and also had the chance to taste their gin. Good choice of items to add to the drinks to bring out the flavours.

After the gin tasting, we had a gin cocktail and a glass of red accompanied by a cheese board. It was then we learnt of the overnight adventures the Scouts had had in Jersey – they were up at midnight, packing away their tents so they didn’t blow away … and ended up spending the night in the Scout Centre! “Best night ever”, the Scouts wrote on their blog!!

A group of Explorers lost their tents so joined them inside spending their night in the bike shed! They weren’t meant to be there – their boat home had been cancelled. We did feel a teeny bit guilty!
