The start of this year’s The Hundred series and we headed to Southampton to watch Southern Brave take on Welsh Fire. Alas, no ladies match as players were involved in the Women’s Cricket World Cup, so just the men to watch this evening.

We arrived what we thought was in good time, but by the time we’d parked on the golf course and walked over the stadium, the queues were incredibly long. From what we could see, there were more people queuing outside than there were in the stadium … and the queues were not moving!

Match start time, and hardly anyone in the stadium. All of a sudden, the queues moved at break-neck speed. They’d stopped checking everyone’s tickets and everyone in the queue made their way in and found their seats.

Southern Brave kept Welsh Fire to 107-7 for their innings and in reply, quickly rattled off 109-1 to win the match, helped massively by some awful fielding from Welsh Fire right under our noses! The ball went through one of the fielders legs for 4 runs!

Added bonus was that Moeen Ali was being interviewed right below where we were sat.

Heading home was a doddle. Straight out the car park onto the back roads. It was our night for diversions though; three times were needed to find an alternate route. The road to pick up the M27 was closed due to roadworks so had to pick our way around. Then a section of the A34 with the final closure being Thornford Road near home.
