This year’s family Christmas Presents – Tickets for Hidden London’s tour of Moorgate: Metropolitan Maze, going behind the scenes at the Station.
First decision for the day was breakfast. We caught the Elizabeth Line from Paddington to Liverpool Street. Jon was researching the breakfast options on the way into London and suggested The Breakfast Club near Liverpool Street Station as an alternative to McDonalds!! Callum was keen to try somewhere new.
The Breakfast Club was tucked away down a little alley and we initially walked passed the entrance as there was building work blocking most of the entrance.

The place was busy but they managed to find a table for us. Really cool place. Callum and Jon went for the strawberry milkshakes and I had a hot chocolate.
For breakfast, Callum went for the pancakes with bacon, sausage and maple syrup, Jon the “normal” breakfast and I had the breakfast burger. All really good. Fab place and am sure we’ll be back. Also found out there is a branch in Oxford so just need an excuse to head there too.
From here we headed towards Moorgate Station. We had plenty of time so popped into a pub for a quick drink (and to use the facilities!) before making our way to the meeting point for the tour.

The meeting point was in front of the newsagent by exit 3. I had a moment of panic. I went to pull out my driving licence and it wasn’t in my purse where it usually is. I had taken a small handbag to the football last week and popped my driving licence in just in case it was needed and forgot to put it back. I could get to a copy on my passport online. Luckily I had my Costco card (with photo!) with me which sufficed as they needed to see a physical ID. Phew – I was expecting to wait in a coffee shop whilst Jon and Callum did the tour.
The Hidden London tour of Moorgate: Metropolitan Maze was really interesting and outlined a lot of history of the Underground from the beginning and how Moorgate evolved over the years. On this tour, we were taken trackside and into some of the disused passenger tunnels. A very different tour to the Charing Cross tour we did previously but still very good.

A little time to kill before our booking at Dishoom Shoreditch so we headed to Leadenhall Market and a quick pit stop at The Lamb before making our way to Dishoom.

We’d previously eaten at the Covent Garden branch so were really looking forward to it … but this wasn’t a patch on the Covent Garden branch.

The food was still lovely but the service was really lacking – or lacking for our our table. We had asked for a couple of dishes as starters so it was a little frustrating when everything arrived at once.
Mains were barely warm before we could eat them. Some of the dishes were really spicy (nice but spicy!) so had to keep asking to top our water up (other tables were being topped up regularly)
