Oxford: Junkyard Golf & Amazing Thai Food

Jon’s Birthday and we were off to Oxford to celebrate. Callum had enjoyed going to Junkyard Crazy Golf in Oxford a couple of months back, so we decided to give this a whirl and find somewhere nice for lunch.

It’s tricky to find car parking in the centre of Oxford so we use the Redbridge Park and Ride. All very easy … as long as you can figure out how to buy the extra ticket at the parking machines! Junkyard Golf is right by the Park & Ride bus stops so very easy to find.

We had a little time to kill so we found the place we had booked for lunch – it was tucked down a little alley opposite the entrance to the covered market. And then popped into Black Sheep Coffee Shop for breakfast. Wish we hadn’t bothered. Everything was cold – the coffee, the hot chocolate and not sure what they did to the bacon rolls, but they weren’t very nice.

We’d booked to do two rounds of Crazy Golf – we had booked “Gary” and then chose to go “Pablo” as our second course. It was good fun and some holes were pretty evil! I lost … so drinks were on me.

Jon fancied Thai for lunch, but didn’t want to go back the restaurant by the theatre where we’ve eaten previously. Nothing against the food there – just fancied a change.

From TripAdvisor, Jon decided he would like to go to Chang Mai Kitchen as it had some really good reviews and the menu looked good. We were not disappointed. The restaurant is in one of the older buildings in Oxford with bags of character. The restaurant was split across 3 or 4 rooms with half a dozen tables in each. We were on the top floor. As soon as we entered, we were made very welcome. We didn’t deviate too far from our usual choices – mixed starters, beef krapow, a duck and chicken dish, pad thai and rice. Callum and Jon had soup too – it was amazing.

The meal was far cheaper and much nicer than the meal in China Town at the weekend (and the meal in China Town was nice!).

After lunch, we headed to M&S to pick up the obligatory Colin the Caterpillar Birthday Cake and then into the Covered Market. We were sure there was a cheese stall there … and after a little searching, we found it!

A piece of Red Fox and round of Oxford Isis later, our tea-time supper was sorted!
