London: Hold Onto Your Butts!

A couple of months back, Jon stumbled across an ad for a show called Hold onto Your Butts that had debuted at the Edinburgh Fringe. Essentially a parody of Jurassic Park. We found a clip online and we must admit, it was very funny … but would the rest of the .

The big question – did we count as die-hard Jurassic Park fans? Had we seen the film enough times to know what the improvs were trying to depict? The answer was yes, and the tickets weren’t too badly priced so we took the plunge and booked tickets.

As it happens, the show was taking place at the Arts Theatre in Covent Garden (same theatre we had seen Bonnie & Clyde a couple of years back).

We arrived at the Theatre and it turned out that they closed the balcony where we had carefully chosen our seats (I needed an aisle seat so could stick my legs out into the aisle as there’s never sufficient leg room). Luckily there were a couple of aisle seats available in the stalls so all was good.

The entire film was enacted by two actors and another providing sound-effects. The mannerisms, the sound effects and the dino depictions were absolutely brilliant (loved the goggle wearing velociraptors!) and we haven’t laughed so much in a while. So glad we went.

After the play, it was time to grab something to eat before heading back home. It’s been a while since we’d eaten in China Town, so we took a wander down the lanes. At one point, China Town just featured the Chinese Gates at either end of Wardour Street. The gates remain but the streets are strung with Chinese Lanterns ensuring a colourful outlook whatever the weather.

Several restaurants had queues outside (a sign of good place!) but we eventually found a table at Feng Shui Inn. The food was good although a little on the small side and overall, we felt it was overpriced, even by London standards.
