Eve though we had just dropped Callum off at University for the start of his second year, we were back the following weekend as it was his birthday. We brought Kian along with us so he could catch up as well.
We’ve yet to find a good car park in the town (all very narrow entrances and ramps, barely wide enough to fit Jon’s car through!) so we left the car at the Racecourse Park and Ride and caught the bus into town.
We had a little time before our booking so we headed to the Brewery Quarter and the Brewhouse and Kitchen for a drink. The food here is really good and somewhere we tend to default to if we can’t decide where to go.

One place we’d been wanting to try since Callum started university was The Beefy Boys restaurant. When we’ve walked past previously, the queues were out the door so they must be doing something right. So we didn’t have to wait, Callum booked us a table.

If you don’t like burgers, this is not the place for you!
Admittedly, it was a tough decision on which burger to choose. We all ruled out the Hellboy 2.0 (with an off-the-chart chilli count!).
In the end, I settled for a Jurassic Classic (with a fried egg!), Callum the Bacon Boy, Jon the Beefy Boy and Kian the Chicken Boy. We ordered sides of truffle fries and Bacon Fries (delicious!). The lads went for milkshakes and they were the nicest they’ve ever tasted. Callum gave the thumbs up to The Salted Caramel shake and Kian the Strawberry.
We had a pleasant surprise when in came to receiving the bill – just shy of £100 for the four of us (and that included the tip).

We’ll definitely be back for another meal before Callum finishes uni … and we learnt that they were opening another branch in the Westgate Centre in Oxford.
My brother messaged me when he found out we were back in Cheltenham and told us we HAD to have a drink in The Old Courthouse. A quick look at the map on the phone and it was just a couple of doors down the road.
Whilst deciding which gin to choose, I was struck that they had to local gins on the shelf: Lumbers – a small batch gin made by the guy that used to run The Newbury, and Highclere Gin in it’s distinct blue bottle from Highclere Castle. I settled for Forest Gin in the end as I loved the bottle!

The bar rooms all featured high ceilings and the walls lined with book cases. There were several rooms on the ground floor that can be booked for private functions or used if busy. On your way to visit the facilities, you went past the hold cell – now converted into a wine cellar!

It was a pretty cool pub and a great recommendation from my brother.
