Sea Day – South of Sicily
Weather: Overcast all day
Sea Conditions: Flat initially but swell seems to be building quite nicely much to Jon’s delight!
Clocks moved on another hour last night so we were now two hours ahead of the UK.
We had a much needed lie-in today – we didn’t get up until Callum woke up. As it was 10am, we’d missed our served breakfast so had to brave the buffet and we were pleasantly surprised. Although there were no seats left in Venezia (where the breakfast buffet was served), there were plenty if you walked back through to Verona and got seats overlooking the aft decks and the wake.
Callum was dropped off at Kids Club for Gladiator Olympics (code name Super Cal!) and we headed back to the cabin to relax (catch up on this diary!!).
We had a visitor today of the feathered kind on our balcony. After slip-sliding on the rail, he hopped onto the back of a deck chair and sat staring at us in the cabin. It was pretty windy out on deck. We didn’t think he was a sea bird … may be one migrating to Europe. We didn’t dare open the door as we knew he’d hop right in. Think he’s staying put until we make landfall tomorrow.

For the first time since leaving Southampton, we can actually feel the ship moving very slightly from side to side. There’s a little bit of a swell and the wind is picking up too – averaging around 30 knots.
Callum was itching to try the Glass House for lunch so we ate here for lunch today. We had two tasting plates between us – 3 lots of Prawns, 2 Bruschetta and a Pitta Bread with Hummus.
Kids Club called and Jon and I took to The Planet Bar to read our books. In honour of our visit to Cephalonia tomorrow, I’ve started to read Captain Corelli’s Mandolin.

Treat for us tonight – Callum off to Kids Club whilst we popped upstairs for a meal at XVII. A lovely meal. We both had the Lobster and Crayfish Cocktail with Bloody Mary Shot and Anchovy Straws. We then shared the Chateaubriand with Bearnaise Sauce. This was accompanied by a very nice Rioja Crianza. Jon chose the Chocolate Fondant for pudding whilst I had the Banana and Toffee something or other!!
Before bedtime, Callum checked to see if our friend was still on the balcony (he was) and settled down to sleep very quickly.
