Weather: Sunny
Seas: Calm

Another port, another day and another gorgeous sunrise!

Even at 8am, the weather was really warm outside so we were looking at another warm, sunny day. Breakfast routine ran like clockwork and we met at 9.30am to catch the shuttle into town. This pick up point would be a little easier to find as it was right next to the Ferris Wheel.

We’d downloaded a map of La Rochelle – we weren’t really sure what there was to see but took one of the walking tours. Maps could really have done to be a little larger as the roads were narrow and short (and some of the names were pretty long!).

It’s a really pretty historic port town.

About half way around the walk, we came across the local market.  Some fab foods on display (especially the meat and the fish).  David decided to buy some cheese (a decision they’d later regret as it stunk their cabin out – even their Cabin Steward was concerned!).

Last part of our exploring took us around the harbour to the old defensive port entrance to the town.

Half of us stayed in La Rochelle to do a little more exploring – mainly for ice cream eating and a couple of souvenir purchases.  We then caught the shuttle bus back to the ship – today was the Great British Sailaway.  Bit odd as we still had one port left but probably pulled forward as the weather was warmer and we visit Cherbourg on the last full day of the cruise.  That’s a  very hectic day as you need to pack etc.  If Dan thought yesterday’s sailaway was “a bit weird”, goodness knows what he’d think of this one!

Whilst it was lovely and sunny as we left La Rochelle, in about 5 minutes, that would all change.  It got very foggy, very quickly (bit like going into the Twilight Zone!).

This evening, all the kids went to the Wii Game Stations leaving the grown-ups to go along to Anderson’s – this was Mum and Dad’s favourite place for pre-dinner drinks but it’s one of the few “Adult-only” areas on the ship.  After this drink we went up to the Crows Nest and waited for the kids to join us.  Juhn was serving us and as it was quiet, he kept the kids entertained with the great card tricks.

Mum ducked out of the Family Quiz night tonight.  Teams drawn out of a hat … David, Callum, Tom and I vs Jon, Nicky, Dan, Ollie and Jess.

Sea Day tomorrow so we could all have a lie-in.
