Weather: Overcast
Seas: Calm
Today we were crossing the Bay of Biscay. Hopefully the seas would be calm. A lazy-ish start to the morning. We were treating Mum to the “Galley Lunch” today – we were going behind the scenes to see how everything works in the kitchen.
We were being shown around by the Executive Chef and his team, and everything was explained. From the hand-washing and flow throughout the kitchen to the food prep areas. Even the machine that makes the dough, rolls it out and another that cuts and shapes the dough into balls. From there, they can keep as rounds or roll into a sausage and shape into knot rolls.
After a good tour of the kitchens, we were then treated to lunch. We had to go into the kitchen, choose what we wanted then bring it back to the table.
Good fun and certainly an insight into what goes on behind the revolving doors! We headed out on deck for some fresh air and spotted another cruise ship. After a little working out and making full use of zoom on the camera, we worked out it was Celebrity Solstace – they were due in Southampton tomorrow so needed to move a little faster than us.
After lunch, Callum had some reading to catch up on for school then once he was done, he was treated to a mocktail and a couple of games of cards.
All too soon, it was afternoon tea – not just any afternoon tea, but the Chocoholics Afternoon Tea. We were meeting the others there, but were too full up to try much. Callum found room for one of the doughnuts!
Afterwards it was the usual routine, although tonight was formal night. At dinner tonight, it was the parade of the chefs – chance for the diners to thank the chefs for all their hard work over the week. Not quite sure where the waving of the napkins over the head (like a lasso!) came in, but the restaurant manager was encouraging everyone to join in. Mum was not impressed to say the least!
Afterwards, the kids went to the Wii Play Zone whilst the elders went to Andersons for a quiet drink. We then all met up in The Crows Nest for the kids usual card games.
Final port day – and final day onboard tomorrow – so packing needs to be done. We rounded off the evening with the Syndicate Quiz before retiring for the evening.
