Warwick Castle

It had been a while since we’d last visited Warwick Castle so with swimming cancelled we decided to have a Saturday out.

Since our last visit, the castle had been taken over by Merlin Entertainments, so it would be very interesting to see just how much it had changed.  Even though we had Merlin Passes, we hoped it hadn’t been too over commercialised (but weren’t holding out much hope).

Without doubt, it is one of the more impressive castles.  It’s large, imposing and there some fabulous views all around.

At weekends they hold a Birds of Prey flying demonstration.

There are also some majestic peacocks roaming around the grounds.  The colours are absolutely amazing.

Just before we headed home, there was time for Callum to have a go at Archery.  He did pretty well.

Signs of Merlin’s take over were evident.  Shops in situ at all exits to the various rooms and attractions.  And the food was also pretty pricey.  Service in the Orangery restaurant was painfully slow and you had to clear tables so you had somewhere to sit.  It’s still an impressive castle, but without Merlin Passes or Tesco Vouchers, this is an expensive family day out.
