Sea Day – North Sea Cruising
Seas flat
Sunny but foggy
We lost an hour overnight but we all slept really well. Beds and pillow really comfy. We were up in time to meet Ann and Mum for breakfast and headed to the main dining room. Pancakes with maple syrup for Callum, omelette for me and English breakfast for Jon. From here we went to the Themed quiz in Brodies which featured world wide brands. Again, a very respectable effort with 17/20 (winners got 18). Callum was then dropped off at kids club as he wanted to do the Movie Quiz in Scubas. The staff did check he was in the right room as he was so tall!
Jon and I headed back to the cabin to sit and chilled on the balcony. As we were sailing North, we had the sun directly on the balcony and it was a lovely little suntrap.
We collected Callum from Kids Club where he had got 14/15 on the Movie Quiz (someone got 15!) and headed to the Glass House for lunch. A set of tasting plates all round. I tried a glass of the New Hall Bacchus – it was OK – quite refreshing but very different from the wines I usually drink. All really good – it’s one thing we really enjoy on P&O!
We failed to get Callum’s mop tamed before coming away so we booked Callum into the Spa for a haircut! Mop of hair reduced – and not too bad a cut for £9 (plus tip!)! We then went to the Crystal Room where the dance instructors were trying to teach a group the Cha Cha with varying degrees of success. The main reason for staying here was that Callum wanted to do the “Less is More” quiz (P&O’s version of Pointless) but he had to be 18 to take part. The questions weren’t really Callum’s era though (Dickens books and Beatles Hits).
Meanwhile, what started out as a lovely sunny morning, turned into a foggy afternoon with the foghorn sounding every two minutes.

Afterwards, we found a quite corner and played cards, read and Callum did his puzzle book.

Back to the cabin and time to get ready for our first formal night. We met up with Ann and Mum in the atrium, trying to find a spot where we would be in easy reach of a drinks tray. There were numerous photo stations set up on Deck 7 around the atrium so this was harder than it sounded. In the end we went down onto deck 6 – not brilliant but a steady flow of waiters passing by. Prosecco, G&Ts and orange juices snaffled and we waited for the Deputy Captain to make his appearance. As it was still foggy, Captain Dunlop remained on the bridge with other senior officers.
An introduction to the senior heads of department and a welcome on board, we were all then sent packing for dinner.
Back to Table 64 and Callum, Mum and I all had duck for starters, Ann had the cauliflower soup and Jon had something different(!). A passion fruit sorbet then cleansed our palettes and it was a clean sweep for main course: Beef Wellington all round. Puddings, Jon and mum went for the Grand Marnier Tart, Callum and Ann the chocolate mousse and I went for the cheese and biscuits yet again – complete with port soaked stilton.
Just enough time to sprint down to the front of the ship for the Syndicate Quiz. Apparently it was heaving with 9 teams and we had to set up our table next door in the Ivory Suite (where they hold the marriage services). Some very tricky questions and the three of us ended up two off the pace.
Back to the cabin as it was our first port of call tomorrow morning – Stavanger.
