First day of the school holidays and a trip out to Bowood House & Gardens near Calne, Wiltshire with Beverley, Janine and kids. It didn’t open until 11am which was quite late but at least it meant we didn’t have to be up too early for the 1 hour drive! We hadn’t realised but the Wiltshire schools hadn’t yet broken up yet so the place was pretty quite.
First port of call was the Adventure Playground and “Death Slide” as the kids have named the vertical drop slide. Coffee was the priority for the Mum’s! No sooner than we arrived, it was time for lunch! Back to the cafe by the entrance for sandwiches or paninis. There was a restaurant in the main house, but this had changed since the last visit. Rather than choosing things off the menu, it was a buffet style meal. It all looked really nice although we decided against it as not all the kids would eat what was on offer.

After lunch we walked around the lake to the temple and caves. It was quite dark in the caves, but the kids were brave and went through several times. After the walk, we headed in to explore the house. The house looked huge but as this was still a family home, the vast majority was out of bounds.

Back to the adventure playground for the kids to have an ice cream and another play. The weather then changed and the rain started so we took our cue to leave and head home.

All in all, a good day out although not a huge amount to do or see. The adventure playground is really good for the older children (there was another play park for the younger children plus a soft play area).
