RideLondon … in memory of Dad

A family friend, Roger, announced that he was entering the Prudential RideLondon 100 bike ride to mark his 70th Birthday.  We were truly humbled to find out he would be riding to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK in memory of Dad.

We decided to go up to London with Mum to cheer him across the finish line.  He was setting off at 7.30am and was hoping to complete the course in 5 hours, so expecting him across the line between 12.30 and 1pm.  We also wanted to keep Sylvia company as she was up there on her own … waiting!  Sylvia had found a great spot on the wall of the fountains in front of Buckingham Palace, and we could watch all the riders make their way to collect their medals.

Alas, everyone’s time went out of the window as tragic events took over and the race was stopped for an hour or so.  Our thoughts are very much with those affected.

Jon managed to find an app to try and track Roger’s position.  Once the riders passed the finish line, there was a long queue for the riders to get their medal and retrieve their bags from the lorries and head over to the meeting zone.

Because of the delays, we now weren’t expecting Roger finish around 4pm.  To whilst away some time, we wandered over to Green Park to grab something to eat, before heading over to St James Park for a wander around there.

We were in position ready for Roger to pass us … but we must have spotted every single rider support Prostate Cancer UK apart from Roger.  Sylvia got a call about 4.30pm to say that he was waiting by GH in the Friends and Family Zone!!  He’d snuck past us.

A massive thank-you to Roger for doing this and for raising over £1,000 for Prostate Cancer UK in Dad’s memory.  THANK YOU!!
