Sea Day

Sea: Calm (flat as a pancake)
Weather: Cloudy

Sea day today and time to settle in onboard.  We got ourselves a bit more sorted in the cabin and headed up to the buffet for breakfast much to Callum’s delight.  We usually avoid and head to one of the Main Dining Rooms as it can be a bit of a bun fight, but it was surprisingly quiet and loads of free tables, including several next to the window.  Plenty of choice for a cooked breakfast, plus cereals, fruit, meat/cheese – and pastries!

After breakfast, we headed down to Java for a latte and hot chocolate … and a game of Carcassone (computer version!).  We were sat here when the Emergency call came over the tannoy – Emergency Crew to Delta 219 – Code Fire!!  That certainly got everyone’s attention.  The Officer of the Watch came back on a couple of minutes later to say it was indeed a potential fire – someone had left something plugged in in their cabin and it had started to smolder and set the smoke alarms in the cabin off.  Everyone was reminded unplug everything before leaving the cabin.  Phew!!

Not a huge amount to see. The coastline only came into view occasionally, so really just the odd passing/overtaking ship and oil rig to see!

Late lunch today in the Glass House.  We shared two sharing plates between the three of us.  Callum chose Tempura Prawns and Chicken Popcorn, Jon the Tempura Prawns and Scallops and I chose the Smoked Salmon Scotch Egg and Oxtail Bon Bons.  All really good and washed down with a lunchtime glass of wine.

Syndicate Quiz had moved to a 3.30pm time slot which was a shame as we liked the late evening time slot pre-COVID.  However, the move resulted in far more people taking part – 35 teams at this first syndicate quiz.  Stevie was leading the quiz backed up by partner in crime, DJ Phil.  They were a brilliant double-act.  DJ Phil (not his real name – he was from The Philippines but he felt his real name was unpronounceable so called himself DJ Phil.  He was very entertaining reading out the answers everyone had written down.

We were 2 off the lead – Callum learnt his lesson to listen to the question rather than jump in with what he thought he’d heard.   We also learnt not to sit on the plastic seats around the edge of the Crystal Room as you stuck to the seats!!

Formal celebration night tonight so a chance to get dressed up.  Callum opted to wear his Prom Suit and Jon his DJ.

We had reserved a table in Sindhu this evening and were looking forward it.  The menu was now priced per item rather than a set cover charge.  A shame that they’ve done away with the Amuse Bouche to start the meal and the sorbet before the dessert course, as this made the meal that little bit more special.

For starters, I chose the Spiced Chicken with Tomato and Coconut Relish and Jon and Callum both went for the Beef Pepper Fry – Kerala Style Beef on a Paratha Flatbread.  For mains, Jon and I both chose the Lobster with Seafood Biriyani and Callum made the surprising choice of Pan-seared Duck Break with Aubergine Fritters (Callum let me try a small piece and it was actually really nice – I am not a big Aubergine fan!).  Dessert course and Callum and I were very predictable going for the chocolate textures whilst Jon opted for the Ice Cream.

After Sindhu, it was down to Brodies for the famous car quiz.  Again – there or thereabouts. 21/26 as there were a couple of bonus questions.  The winners got 24.  Without the bonus questions, we would have ended up on 19/20.
