Cape Town HOHO Bus Tour
Our first full day in Cape Town and a lie in was in order so Callum and I could catch up on some sleep. Time difference is only 1 hour we shouldn’t suffer from jetlag! We had breakfast in the hotel arrived just before the masses and the restaurant closed its doors. A huge selection to choose from … sausages (both chicken and pork!), bacon (soft and crispy), eggs, potato, beans, tomatoes, huge selection of fresh bread meat and cheeses, fruit and more!
After breakfast we caught the shuttle into the Waterfront and bought tickets for the HOHO bus and decided to do the Red Route. We drove through downtown Cape Town and some of the buildings are very colonial and pretty stunning.
Alas, the cable car up to the top of Table Mountain was closed for maintenance so the HOHO bus diverted to Signal Hill instead where the views over Cape Town were pretty awesome.
After Signal Hill, we caught the next bus which took us around to Camps Bay.
We could smell the sea and the sand looked really white. We headed towards the beach, spotting the warnings about sharks in the sea … luckily it was too cold to do anything but paddle.

A quick wander on the beach (Callum got his feet wet – alas without taking them out of his trainers first!) before choosing a spot to eat.
Ocean Blue was the place – Jon had the Prawn & Lobster whilst Callum and I had the seafood salad. Loads of food and it was really good.
Great view over to the sea crashing down onto the sand too.
Back on the bus and we worked our way back around to the waterfront following the coastal route. Some great views looking back down to Camps Bay.
Back in town, the waterfront was very lively with music being played so we sat outside and enjoyed a beer at the Ferryman’s Irish Tavern. Afterwards, we explored a little more of the Waterfront.
Callum was getting hungry so we decided to find somewhere to eat before heading back to the hotel. So much choice and Callum was getting a little frustrated that we kept studying the restaurant menus but didn’t stop at any! Jon remembered he’d had some fantastic springbok carpaccio at one of the restaurants – he remembered which one it was when we got there – Karibu (African for Welcome).
The temperature was starting to drop, but all the restaurants still had outside eating areas with heaters and blankets! Some amazing views of Table Mountain as the sun went down. Starters and Jon and I had the Ostrich and Springbok Carpaccio and Callum the mussels, for mains, Jon opted for the Giant Beef Fillet Skewer, I had the Ostrich fillet and Callum the sirlion of beef. It was all really good and amazing value for money.
Back to the hotel and once again we stopped off at the bar for a drink. Jon’s drink of the trip was a pint of Jack Black, I kept switching between wine and beer. Callum’s decision of the day was which flavour of milkshake to choose!
A reasonably early night this evening as we had to be up bright and early in the morning as we were heading to Inverdoorn.
