Sea Day
Weather: Sunny but a little breezy
Sea: Calm
Much to Jon’s dismay the forecast was for calm seas for the next two days. Curtains were pulled back and it was a lovely sunny morning. You could just see the French Coastline on the horizon.
Breakfast down in the dining room this morning before tackling the themed quiz on food. We got 10/21 … about middling for the quiz. The winners got 15/21.
With no tables free in Raffles for a coffee, we had a wander around the decks. We were passing the Dutch coast and could see a massive wind farm off the coast.

Jon and Callum were hoping for a spot of shuffleboard or table tennis. The table tennis tables were in use and the crew were revarnishing the decks where the shuffleboard is. A supervisor was pointing out where they needed to be remarked. Instead of grey, the newly revamped decks were a lovely teak colour.
We didn’t get too far before Callum spotted the golf nets and had a practise. The tennis court behind then became free so they had a hit around. Another couple then came up and offered to play doubles. Hard to believe but Jon and Callum came out on top!

Much to their disappointment, they were then kicked off by the Entertainment Team who needed to set up for the afternoon cricket.
Back to the cabin to decide what the next plan of attack was. Lunch in the buffet (really nice curry) … Alas all the fruit salad bowls disappeared when I went back for pudding … Should have picked up a bowl when I first saw them.
We then thought we’d give the music quiz a go but it proved really popular and not a seat in the house. Instead we headed up to Raffles and had a late latte and boys had the fruit coolers whilst we started a game of Carcassonne.
Another general knowledge quiz at 3pm in Champions. Callum lead the advance party and got us a table. A new quiz host for us … Need. He was very young … Only 20 (same age as Tom) but he had a great sense of humour and quick witted with the banter from the quizzers.
10 general knowledge questions followed by 10 themed questions on board games. We should have listened to Callum when he said it was Super Tax between Park Lane and Mayfair. Jon marvelled at my knowledge that Dr Black was the victim in Cluedo.
We were kicking ourselves about the Japanese warrior cry … I did say, think of Monkey … Bansai!!

We finished off our game of Carcassonne (mum won with the highest score so far!) and then back to the cabin to chill and get ready for this evening. Formal night tonight and we were booked into Sindhu at 7pm.
All dressed up and somewhere to go. Our table was great for people watching both for Sindhu and the outside Raffles area. A few gents were wearing very elaborate / ornate jackets!!
Dinner was lovely … Although the little touches that made the meal that little bit more special were no longer included. No amuse bouche or sorbet.
Mum and Callum had the soft shelled crab (Callum’s still looked very crab like), Jon the Beef on Paratha Bread and I had the Chicken Tandoori.

For mains, Callum had the half chicken (amazing), mum the duck and Jon and I had the lobster.

For pudding, Jon, Callum and I had the chocolate textures and mum the mango parfait … Although she was a little disappointed and said it was lacking in flavour.
From Sindhu, it was across to the Glass House. Alas no Cointreau for mum and no Jam Shed Shiraz on board for me. In the end Mum had a Pimm’s and I opted for a glass of Peller Ice.

Mum retired for the night and we headed up to Horizon for the Syndicate Quiz. Heading North, the sun set pretty late and it disappears below the horizon bar 22.23. Jon saw the flash of green as it did.
It was really noisy venue with background music and the creaks, scrapes and groans of the ship coming from overhead (crew were working hard revamping the decks). One of the hardest syndicate quizzes we’ve done and ended the night on just nine points. Winners got 14.
The one downside (or should that be upside) of the quiz being in Horizon is that it’s right next to the midnight buffet. Slim pickings on the sandwiches / cheese and biscuits front by the time we got across but Callum had a second dinner …. Currywurst with chips!
