Alesund, Norway
Weather: Rain at first, brightening up
Sea: Calm
Alesund this morning and when the curtains were pulled back, we had a great view of the town looking straight down one of canals.

Breakfast then back up the cabin for a bit whilst we waited for the early morning showers to pass.
Mum decided to stay onboard and chill as she’d been here a few times previously so had seen everything she wanted to see.
There isn’t too much to see in town. Nearly all the town burnt down in 1904 and Kaiser Bill paid the the town to be rebuilt. It was his favourite holiday destination.
We wandered around the town before heading back to the ship to spend a leisurely afternoon onboard. We were out on our balcony for sail away and the fireboats were putting on a fabulous display as Mein Schiff 4 and Aurora left port.
Not long after leaving, the pilot boat came alongside both ships. We kept an eye open for the Aquarium as we sail past … easily spotted as there’s a giant orange octopus stuck on the side of the building.

Unusually, it was formal night tonight. It’s not often that it’s on a port day. Surprisingly, we were all ready for 7pm and we’d timed it to perfection. We were shown to our table straight away. The crowds seemed to follow us in with pagers being handed out and tables around us being quickly turned around.
No sooner than we sat down and we were automatically served an amuse bouche … Peach and Carrot Soup with Ginger (tasted like Peach Juice), Smoked Salmon and Salmon Mousse for Jon, Karen & Audrey whilst Callum had the Lamb Bonbon. We all opted for Mushroom Soup which was really good. Then a full house with Beef Wellington all around.
Mum and Callum were on the puddings tonight. Mum had the rum and raspberry dish whilst Callum opted for the chocolate and peaches with cookie dough ice cream. Jon and I had the cheese plate. Just cheddar but with some really nice cherry and almond biscuits and nigella seed chutney.
Afterwards we retired to Anderson’s. Again timed it perfectly as no sooner than we sat down the place filled up.
From here it was up to Horizon for the Syndicated Quiz. 22 teams tonight … We’ve concluded it’s a higher class of quizzer on Aurora so the questions are harder. Just 6 points tonight (and a few others scored less points than us). In the end, 4 teams tied at the top with 9 points. Tiebreaker was how many minutes long was the film The Godfather.
Callum had his second tea from the midnight buffet .. Jon and I grabbed a sandwich and a mug of hot chocolate.
