Sea Day

Weather: Overcast with sunny breaks
Sea: Calm

Final day on board and it was packing day. All our cases needed to be outside the cabin door by 10pm this evening and the next time we would see them was in the baggage hall in the morning.

First things first, breakfast then the themed quiz. It was going to be on Sport – we were happy, but most of the others weren’t so it changed to a General Knowledge quiz. 12/20 today. We grabbed a couple of drinks from the bar to take back to the cabin whilst we packed.

Clothes for tonight and tomorrow were left to one side and the rest was slowly but surely packed away.

Weather was pretty overcast with patches of fog and Jon had resigned himself that this was another cruise where he wouldn’t get anything like rough seas.

We were lucky enough to book a table at Sindhu for their tiffin lunch. It’s a bit like the Nashta they used to do – this time all the dishes were brought to the table in a tiffin box and unstacked to reveal the dishes at the table.

We’d all chosen pretty much the same dishes!

We each had variations of Deep-fried Baby Squid, Beef Seekh Kebab, Tamarind Glazed Chicken Breast and the Mini Dosa.

It was lovely. Mum remembered to raid her fridge and brought a half bottle of Whakapakka along! We did have desserts (mainly ice cream) so we were set up nicely to finish the packing. Always takes so much longer than unpacking!

Callum picked up the bill for the meal … just to ensure the last of his onboard credit was used up!

We decided to go down to dinner early this evening – we gave mum a knock at 7.15pm and headed down. Everyone else on the ship had exactly the same idea and the queue was headed back towards Explorers. The menu wasn’t terribly exciting, so without much persuasion needed, we headed up to The Glass House for our final meal.

A little wait, but we ordered a couple of drinks and were shown to our table pretty quickly (much quicker than if we’d waited for a table in Medina).

Callum was really pleased he could finally order the sliders whilst Jon, Mum and I all were very boring and went for the Fillet Steak with Garlic Prawns. Callum managed to squeeze in a single portion of a pudding but the rest of us declined.

Martin was running the final syndicate quiz of the cruise and he had heard just how hard Ned and Estelle had made their final quizzes. His was slightly better and we finished the night on 9 points (the winners had 11). We had one last drinks voucher left … Callum took the hit and had a glass of bubbles to ensure it didn’t go to waste.

Back to the cabin and we needed to get the last of the luggage out in the corridor so it could be taken off the ship.

We double- and triple-checked we all had clothes, underwear and shoes for the morning and then checked again before putting our bags out in the corridor.

It’s going to be hard going home tomorrow – wonder who will be making the night-time hot chocolates and Horlicks we’ve enjoyed over the last two weeks!
