Ageas Bowl: Hampshire v Kent Spitfires

Today we were heading down to Southampton to watch cricket – one of the T20 matches.  Hampshire was playing Kent at Ageas Bowl, just outside of Southampton.  We’d booked a balcony room at the Hilton at the Ageas Bowl so we could sit on the balcony and watch the game.  We’d come armed with prosecco, beer, cheese & biscuits and a few nibbly bits so we were sorted for the match.  If the worst came to the worst, there was also room service!

The room was a really good size and a decent rollaway bed for Callum.  The balconies stretched the whole width of the hotel and overlooked the cricket pitch.  Glass dividers ensured that watching the match would be more socialable!  Only two chairs so we needed to use the desk chair as well – any more people, then you would need to bring your own chair (and some people had done!)

We arrived at 2pm and our room was ready.  We dropped off our bags and headed to the bar to grab a bite to eat.  It was here we spotted some players wandering around the hotel in team kit.  A quick google and we discovered it was FC Augsburg – a team playing in the top flight of the Bundesliga.  They were due to play Southampton FC the following evening.  The players did venture out to watch some cricket … but think they were a little bemused about the game!

We settled down for the match.  Kent were put into bat first and Hampshire made steady progress in taking wickets and Kent ended their innings on 159-6.

Hampshire made a really great start and piled on the runs.  However, they stalled in the last few innings and finished their innings just 5 runs short.

We did think Shahid Afridi had a very cool shirt number though.

Hopefully, we’ll be back next year to watch another match.
