Embarkation Day – Southampton

Weather: Overcast but dry
Sea Conditions: Flat

Our Easter Holidays had started and we were off on another cruise, this time heading across the Med and up to Venice.  It would be our longest cruise yet – 16 nights and we were looking forward to it.  Car was well and truly loaded – think the kitchen sink was in there!

Car all loaded up

Another good run down to Southampton and we were held in a queue to offload luggage for about an hour.

First glimpse of Azura … waiting to unload!

Before too long we were leaving our luggage in the capable hands of the porters and heading to check in.  The were running behind as the system had gone down earlier in the day.  We eventually got onboard and dropped out hand luggage off in the cabin before grabbing a bite to eat in the buffet.

Back to the cabin to unpack and settle in and before you knew, it was time for muster – slightly delayed due to the system failure earlier in the day.  Our cabin was at the back of the ship so our muster station was Manhattan.

Muster Drill

We could feel the ship start to move whilst muster drill was still taking place so Captain must be needing to vacate the berth.  Luckily, our cabin was one deck above Manhattan so we quickly dropped our life jackets back into the cabin and heading down onto the Prom Deck – the first time we had done sailaway from the prom deck.

Bye bye Southampton

We couldn’t stop long – Callum was itching for something to eat so we headed up to the buffet so he could eat then head off to Kids Club for the evening.

Whilst aimlessly wandering around the ship, we got into a lift and the lady looked vaguely familiar.  It was only as we left the lift, I twigged it was “Sunita” from Corrie – aka Shobna  Gulati.  We wondered if she was on holiday or was being paid to give some talks in the theatre.

Jon and I got changed and headed down to the restaurant for our evening meal – we were on Freedom Dining and were seated pretty quickly.

Sunsetting over Isle of Wight
