Thursday 31st October
Last chance to explore Prague before heading home later this afternoon.
We decided to learn a little more about the history of Prague so once we’d checked out of our hotel, we headed to The Communist Museum. We didn’t realise, but it was right next door to the restaurant we ate in on Tuesday night with Jim!
The museum had little in the way of exhibits but was rich in history, detailed on all the boards running through the museum.
One final wander across to Wencelas Square so we could say we’d seen it – lots of shops and big hotels lined the square and busy with traffic so no where near as picturesque as the Old Town Square.

We then wandered around the lanes to get back to the Old Town Square.

We were determined to see the Astronomical Clock strike the hour. We settled on eating in the restaurant opposite the clock and had a table overlooking the clock.
Total anticlimax as very little happened … but at least Callum could say he saw it! Food and service was a little disappointing – they don’t really need to try as you’re in prime position.
Time to head back to the hotel. Taxi picked us up from hotel a little after 3.30pm. Traffic was jammed trying to get out of the city so the taxi driver weaved his way through some really lovely residential areas. Very nice houses!
We made it to the airport about 4.15pm and had to hang around until 4.35pm to drop the suitcases off. We opted to check in our cases as we were expecting the plane to be full … and it was.
Suitcases whisked off and off through security. Slight delay with both Jon and I needing further checks and a pat down. For me it was my boots that also needed a further x-ray! Duty free and we bought the obligatory Mozart balls and some Lindt chocolate for Callum.
With the incoming BA flight not arriving and disembarking until 45 mins before we were due to take off, we were expecting a delay but the ground staff turned everything around very quickly. Boarding started and we pushed back bang on time. The usual circling around London before landing and pulling into our gate at 7.50pm. Bit of a trek to passport control and the automated gates. Passport on the scan plate, look at the screen and fingers crossed you’ll be allowed back into the UK. Thankfully it all worked … even for Callum!
Luggage was on the carousel as we approached then off to find the bus pick up to take us back to Long Stay car park.
Roads clear and back hone for 9.50pm. Great city break and we all had a great time and learnt a little more about what the Czech people have gone through under Communist rule.
