Read Time:1 Minute, 30 Second

Living only 90 minutes from Stonehenge, it’s been on our radar to visit for many years. We’ve driven past it on numerous occasions.

The last time I had visited the site was 1976 when friends from Australia were visiting us. It was back in the day when you could get up close to the stones.

Nowadays, a new visitor centre with massive car park had been built a distance away from the stones.

With Callum now classed as an adult, he could no longer get access with us on our Family Membership, so we would need to buy him his own membership! National Trust worked out to be the cheaper of the two options (English Heritage was the other).

Once you are in, you have the museum, cafe (absolutely packed), the shop and also an outside exhibit of living in neolithic times and how they built Stonehenge.

To get to the actual stones, you either need to get the shuttle bus or walk the mile or so. We opted to walk. When you arrive, the only decision to make is whether to walk clock-wise or anti-clockwise around the stones.

We were incredibly lucky with the weather – it had rained earlier, but it held off whilst we were there.

Heading home, we set off across Salisbury Plain. Callum was a little amused to see all the “Tank Crossing” signs but alas no tanks were visible.

We stopped off in Devizes to find somewhere for bit to eat and ended up in Condado Lounge (the Devizes equivalent of the Cobrizio Lounge in Newbury). It was a new menu with Jon and I plumping for the Bombay Burger (usual burger with an Indian twist). It got the thumbs up from us. Callum went for his usual milkshake and Cowboy Burger!
