We saw The Play That Goes Wrong for Callum’s Birthday last year, so had booked tickets for Peter Pan Goes Wrong as our Christmas Treat. With Jon being poorly, we didn’t think we make it. However, he was much improved by the end of the week.
Much deliberating about whether to drive into London, drive part way or still catch the train as this was being hyped in the media as being the busiest day of the Christmas break.
We opted to catch the train in – if anything, the train and Paddington were much quieter than usual. More surprising, was how quiet the underground was. There were five of us in our carriage – the platforms at Baker Street and Marylebone were empty. It was like we’d arrived in a parallel universe!
First stop was Trafalgar Square to see the Christmas Tree. Norway gifts the UK a tree every year – this year the media had been savage about it, saying how awful it was. It didn’t look that bad to us. The 4th Plinth has now been given a purpose – a monument to the Windrush Generation.
We then walked across to Covent Garden and had a wander around and see the Christmas Decorations.

We’d booked The Big Easy for lunch – somewhere we’ve eaten plenty of times before – we knew the service would be prompt.
Callum opted for the full rack of ribs to keep him going!

From Covent Garden, it was a 15 minute walk to the theatre. After stopping off to pick up some sweets, we joined the queue to enter the theatre. It wasn’t too long before we were in.

It was just as funny as the other play we saw … how they don’t hurt themselves, I really don’t know!
We didn’t hang around after the play. We hot-footed it back to Paddington. Again, the tube was really quiet, as was Paddington. We were expecting a bunfight for seats on our train home. It’s busy on the best of days. We’ve never seen the trains so quiet. Our carriage only had about 20 people in the carriage and stayed like that all the way home.
Good day out and we were glad we made it.
