Grundafjordur, Iceland, Sea Day
Weather: Blustery
Sea: Moderate (slight movement!)
Not much of a lie-in today – down to breakfast at the usual time. The revised Horizon leaflet for today didn’t reach cabins until late last night as it was being reworked to add in extra activities to keep us entertained on an unexpected sea day.
We went to the themed quiz in the morning and it was on food. No-one knew that Pea Fritters were a thing – Jon didn’t and didn’t believe me … and the Welsh were adamant their best sellers were potato fritters (for the Glaswegian’s, it would be Mars Bar fritters). We got 16/20 (winners got 19/20).
With the England match taking place tonight, formal night had been pushed back to Tuesday night, when we depart Reykjavik.
We decided we would eat early in the Glass House – we were down for 5pm and it was already pretty busy. There was additional staff helping, but not sure if they were help or hinderance as the usual staff were busy explaining what needed to be done rather than just doing it.
Another lovely meal … even through Tempura Prawns weren’t available. Starters were Oxtail Bonbons, Scallops and Lamb Skewers.
For mains, Jon and Callum had the same as the other evening whilst Mum and I opted to share Neptune’s Bounty. Salad, Fries, Scallops, Garlic Prawns and Crab Thermidor.

We were back in Carmens to watch the match. Still a few technical gremlins with the feed dropping out.

This time, we did see the goals but alas England ended the Competition as runners up – the first time we had seen the Mens Team reach the final of the World Cup. We were beaten by the better team on the day and at least were not put through the wringer with extra time and penalties. Well played Spain.
We arrived in Reykjavik late evening and a fair few people left to explore the nightlife in the city! We had a full day tour booked for tomorrow so we headed to Horizon for the Syndicate Quiz before heading to bed.
9/20 tonight – well off the lead. Afterwards, Callum treated himself to a second dinner. Mugs of hot chocolate and Horlicks (and a couple of cookies) taken back to the cabin and the England flags were taken down.
