Friday 17th August
No builders first thing this morning, but when we opened the door to the new extension this morning, the early morning light was flooding in. Hopefully once the steels are in and the room is finished and decorated, it will look even better!
No further progress today – let’s hope the steels do arrive next week and then the builders can crack on with completing our project.
Thursday 16th August
RAIN!!
We woke up this morning to the first real rain in a while. The builders moved inside to dig one of the pits for the steels and the windows for the new extension arrived. We weren’t expecting the doors to be fitted today as well- we were expecting the steels to be fitted first. Let’s hope they don’t get damaged! The protective film was left on for now.
We are really pleased with them though and it lets so much light into the room. The new bi-fold doors open really easily so fingers crossed we get a little bit of good weather so we can use them once the extension is complete later this year.

The weather brightened up in the afternoon so the builders moved back out the front to continue the brickwork. Paul, the window guy, had been to measure up for the new bay and garage windows and was also going to order the new window and door for the utility room.
Wednesday 15th August
Work continued with the brickwork today at the front of the house.
Tuesday 14th August
The building inspector was out before 9am this morning, giving the go ahead for the work to progress at the front of the house. In the extension, however, she was insisting the guys dug pits to place the posts to support the steels. A classic case of one step forward, two steps back!
Pits would need to be dug so that measurements could be taken for the new steels.
Concrete footings laid for the new bay window and brickwork started for the converted section of the garage. The building inspector did give the go-ahead for internal stud walls to be built in the garage as the original footings weren’t wide enough to take an internal wall.
Another issue we spotted today – the BT line (needed for phone and internet!) runs under the box bay window! We were planning on getting someone to move the line and put it straight through into the new study once the conversion was completed BUT we may need to pull that forward.
Monday 13th August
The builders were pretty limited with what they could do today as the skip was full – it was not being collected until Tuesday!

They continued to sweep out the extension, although this was limited by the all the posts and poles propping the house up.
Work then moved to the front of the house – so the building inspector could come out and inspect the footings for the bay window and garage as well as where the steels are going. Some success in the garage already had 3 rows of thermalite blocks underneath the concrete floor BUT the inspector insisted that the builders reveal what was below these bricks!
Edwin also reinstated a doorway in the kitchen so no longer do we have to dive out through the garage to get milk for that cup of tea!
