Friday 15th June

It didn’t take long for the concrete to set!  First round of blocks laid today and a bit of back-filling completed to tidy the ground works up a bit.

Thursday 14th June

Concrete Day!  Foundations were going in today – risk of rain at the weekend so they wanted to be sure everything was in so it could set before any potential rain.

Wednesday 13th June

A rather rude awakening this morning when the new smaller digger arrived at 6.15am!  Even though the driver knew he wasn’t meant to be working in a residential area before 7.30am, he proceeded to wake us and our neighbours up.

Even worse, he then started up the digger to go and retrieve the buckets from the back garden, breaking off some of bricks and making excessive noise.  Apologies to the neighbours all round.

The drain from the upstairs bathroom and kitchen pipes also needed to be moved so for the time being, tipping anything down the sink or flushing the loo in Callum’s bathroom was a no-go.  Timing-wise, Callum away with the school but the washing up bowl kept the plants at the front well-watered!  Only for a day or two they said!

With concrete due tomorrow, they also needed to build a temporary retaining  wall so they didn’t fill the entire trench with concrete!

Tuesday 12th June

More digging today – getting the trench dug around the side of the house.  Slight problem – ground is very gravelly and the trench now keeps collapsing in as the ground is so dry.

Monday 11th June

Two skips collected this morning and the grabloader removed most of the pile of rubble on the front garden.

The breakers weren’t cutting the mustard when it came to tackling the foundations of the old conservatory.  Time for some heavy duty equipment – an attachment that was fitted to the digger.  This broke up the base in no time … and the pile of rubble in the front garden was back!
